Job Title:

Associate Attorney

Cooper Erving & Savage LLP Seeks Associate

The law firm of Cooper Erving & Savage LLP (“Cooper Erving”) seeks litigation associates to join our diversified practice. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis.

Our firm maintains a diverse litigation practice representing employees in civil rights and employment litigation, complex commercial litigation, creditors’ rights and banking litigation, tax certiorari, personal injury, probate, and real property litigation. We also practice in the areas of trust and estate planning, real estate transactions and title, and corporate formation and dissolution.

Cooper Erving is located in Albany, New York, but we handle matters throughout New York State and, often with co-counsel, across the country.

Position Responsibilities

The firm’s diverse practice will require the associate(s) to work within departments and report to supervising attorneys in charge of each area. Associates will assist multiple departments while refining their individual focus through experience, allowing both the firm and associates to develop areas of need and skill.

Associates will handle all aspects of litigation including investigations, research, representation before administrative agencies and in federal and state court, motion practice, legal strategy, complex discovery, management of electronically stored information, client advising, and settlement.

They will also participate in non-litigation matters such as estate planning, real estate, and other business-related transactions including contracts, business formations, and acquisitions.

Associates will work on diverse teams and engage directly with clients and other attorneys.

Experience and Qualifications

  • At least two years of legal experience

  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills with attention to detail

  • Clear and persuasive communication skills with diverse clients and professionals

  • Excellent organizational and case-management abilities

  • Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Teamwork and individual initiative

  • Commitment to the firm’s core values: respect, creativity, client-centeredness, and integrity

  • Understanding of professional responsibility and ethics

  • Law degree from an ABA-accredited institution

  • License to practice law (or eligibility to obtain one) in New York

Compensation and Benefits

Cooper Erving offers competitive compensation commensurate with experience. Salaries range from $75,000 – $100,000, with eligibility for year-end performance bonuses.

Comprehensive benefits include health insurance, a matching 401(k) and profit-sharing program, paid holidays, and paid sick leave. The firm covers 80% of individual health-insurance premiums (approximately $10,000 annually).
